Tell me about Mt. Naeba

EA Ski and Snowboard are lucky to have Internship programs based at Naeba Resort, in Yuzawa, Niigata district.LOGO Naeba2

Naeba is a small snow school located in the heart of the southern Japanese Alps, in the center of Japan. Importantly meaning the snow has had time to lose a lot of its moisture content before dumping sweet dry pow on the Mt Naeba mountain range!

Naeba is easily accessible from Tokyo, approximately 90 minutes from the center of Tokyo! This makes it a popular destination for day-trippers, weekend breaks and tourists visiting Japan who not only want to ski but also want the chance to travel around Japan.

Living & working at Mt. Naeba

Living in Naeba in the mountains has a low cost of living, food is cheap and your staff season pass enables you to visit 4 different mountains. The sprawling city of Tokyo is only a short train ride away with enough to keep you entertained for a lifetime! Naeba has legendary snow and is connected to another huge ski resort, Kagura. This means a huge area to explore and loads of powder for the taking. All the facilities are new and efficient and the epic snow conditions draw crowds from all over the globe. Plus, if you choose to hang around after winter you could enjoy Japan’s biggest rock festival – Fuji Rock – based in Naeba!

Busy periods of work will be from the end of December to mid/end of February. Either side of the peak periods instructors will have time to enjoy the fantastic terrain and snow around the Naeba area. Instructor teaching rates are approximately 1,600 JPY per hour.

All interns will receive a season pass which covers free skiing at the following resorts: Naeba, Tashiro, Kagura and Hakisan.

Message from program manager, James about Mt. Naeba

What about accommoadation?

Staff accommodation is less than a 10-minute walk from the lifts and is subsidised whilst training and working at Naeba. There will be a small daily charge for heating costs (approximately 400 Yen per day).

All facilities and utensils are provided. There are various restaurants within walking distance of the staff accommodation. From Yakiniku restaurants (grill your own meat), Izakaya restaurants (casual places to go and drink and eat with the locals), and of course the famous Nabe restaurants (which is hot pot cuisine, a sumo wrestlers favorite meal)!. There are local grocery shops within a couple of minutes walk and there will be a staff shopping trip twice per week to a large supermarket. Onsens (natural hot springs) are a must after a day on the slopes, there are many dotted around the town and some truly beautiful 150-year-old onsens within a 15-minute drive from Naeba.
