Tell me about Cypress

Skiiers and snowboarders are drawn to Cypress Mountain for many different reasons. Cypress is located 30 mins drive from, and looks over the fantastic and vibrant city of Vancouver. Plus, there is fantastic night riding there offering uncrowded terrain for enthusiasts late into the evening.

LOGO Cypress Canada

Cypress is the largest of the 3 local Vancouver mountains, and is just 30 minutes away from downtown! While not as big as other British Columbia resorts, Cypress can offer just as much variety and caters to every single ability level, from the bunny hill for beginners to Top Gun for experts, Cypress has it all.

Panoramic views of Vancouver to the South, combined with yearly snowfalls over 10metres is a perfect recipe for fun. EA’s program here is well known, and interns here are known to stick around for a while! Cypress offers you the perfect mix of mountain and city life and is the perfect choice for your internship

Living & Working at Cypress Mountain

Cypress Mountain offers the perfect lifestyle balance for those in the city to head up there in the evenings and on weekends as it is a short 30-minute drive from North Vancouver. Cypress is one of our most popular instructor course locations in Canada. After completion of their ski or snowboard instructor courses, EA interns typically start working in the kid's ski school as this generally provides more regular lessons and is a great way to gain experience instructor.

Although you could spend more than a year exploring the ins and outs of Vancouver, EA will make sure you are dialled in with the local scene and quickly become familiar with popular hot spots. People often ask how much it costs to buy food and drink so here’s our shopping list rundown:

  • $5 pizza slice at over 10 places less than 2 minutes from your accommodation!
  • A cold pint of Molson Canadian at Doolins Irish pub for $6 (live music most nights)
  • 20 sushi pieces and Miso soup for CA$8
  • pasta dinner for two from food market $4.50 each.

Now for the best ski runs:

  • Rainbow runs right underneath the Lions Express and when you can get fresh tracks in the cord there’s truly nothing better
  • Moons is a hidden run that has some of the best powder stashes on the mountain, and there’s so many lines you can take you’re almost guaranteed fresh pow!
  • Panorama is the crusiest run here and on a clear day you’ll have the best view of downtown Vancouver, combined with some tree runs on the side it’s got it all for beginners

Here are some of our favourite food spots:

  • If you head to Sushi Bella in North Vancouver, you can get some of the best sushi you'll find anywhere
  • Burgoo is a 'food for comfort' restaurant that serves up heart-warming and delicious meals on a budget
  • Raglans is an EA intern favourite as it has a cool vibe, great cocktails & classics like burgers & nachos on the menu
  • Twisted fork for brunch of course - the best 'eggs bennie' you'll find around here

Cypress Resort is renowned for fantastic internal training. After your level one and the initial period of work over the holidays, you can expect additional training opportunities to work towards your level two, or dual discipline.

Certification overview

CSIA CASI

Our ski and snowboard internships and training courses at Cypress Ski Resort allow you to obtain a globally recognised qualification with either the CSIA (Ski) or CASI (Snowboard).

Both the CISA and CASI are internationally recognised snowsports instruction associations and are the governing bodies for ski/snowboard instructor qualifications in Canada. CASI and CSIA qualifications are highly regarded in the industry and a qualification with the Canadian system will build your technical understanding and allow you to effectively instruct skiing or snowboarding.

Program Manager

EA Ski & Snowboard want you to have the best winter possible at Cypress Mountain. This means that we have someone on the ground, who is easily contacted and there to offer advice and support at all times. Not only are they familiar with Cypress itself, but they also work for the ski school and will be a familiar face to make your gap year and first winter that much easier.
