Kelowna International Airport is the main gateway airport for the SilverStar Resort, only 65km (40 miles) away. From the airport there are various shuttle services available. You can expect to be busy with work over the Christmas and New Year period with less work during the quieter weeks in January onwards. With employment at SilverStar as a ski or snowboard instructor, you may be required to work across other departments (for example, lift operations).
Accommodation on our courses is 2-4 share, conveniently located and reasonably priced to be suitable for your first winter season. Accommodation at Silverstar is 'staff accommodation' and is organised direct through Silverstar prior to the start of the season, we coordinate so that our group are accommodated together at the same location. This is usually in the nearby town of Vernon - the big plus here is that staff accommodation is very good value for money and often has a fantastic social vibe. As with any staff accommodation option, exact location and amenities can differ from year to year.
Every season we have a resort representative at SilverStar who is easily contacted and there to offer advice and support at all times. Not only are they familiar with Silverstar itself, but they also work for the ski school and will be a familiar face, ready to make your gap year and first winter season that much easier.
Our ski and snowboard internships and training courses at SilverStar, Canada are run in conjunction with either the CSIA (Ski) or CASI (Snowboard).
Both the CSIA and CASI are internationally recognised snowsports associations and are the governing bodies for ski and snowboard instructor qualifications in Canada. CASI and CSIA qualifications are highly regarded in the industry and a qualification with the Canadian system will build your technical understanding and allow you to effectively instruct skiing or snowboarding.
