Hakuba Snow Sports School is a privately owned ski school who have partnered with EA Ski and Snowboard Training since 2015.
Hakuba itself is a four-hour train ride from Tokyo and receives an average snowfall of around 14-metres of snow each season. There are more than 11 resorts within the Hakuba Valley and the season runs from early December to April giving you plenty of time to live, work and play.
Hakuba Snow Sports School is a premium school and hires only the best experienced and qualified instructors. As an intern at Hakuba Snow Sports School, you will become a successful and confident snow sports professional and train under the best.

Hakuba Snow Sports based in the Hakuba Valley was home to the 1998 Winter Olympics. Located in the spectacular Japanese Alps, Hakuba Valley is an authentic alpine village with terrain to suit everyone. As an instructor with Hakuba Snow Sports, you will get the opportunity to ride and teach at the majority of these mountains. Hakuba Snow Sports offer their instructors a fun-filled living and working environment with pay rates that are second to none.
All employees are rostered one day off a week, which is flexible according to business levels. Instructors will be expected to teach both adults and children of all levels according to their certifications. Employees are expected to conduct themselves professionally. Pay rates for group lessons are around 1,800 YEN an hour. Pay for private lessons is approximately 5,000 YEN per hour! This is a unique scheme and one of the most generous available.

Level 1 training for the Internship takes place in Karuizawa, Japan, where the season starts in early November. This allows you to begin working with Hakuba SSS and earning from the start of the season. Accommodation, transport, lift passes, and local support are provided. Early-season, mostly machine-made snow offers ideal conditions for developing Level 1 fundamentals before Japan’s famous powder arrives later in November.
EA Ski and Snowboard Training also offer our Instructor Training Programs in partnership with Hakuba Snow Sports School. Combining world-class instructor training with incredible skiing, a vibrant social scene, and the opportunity to immerse yourself in Japanese culture, these programs are designed to set you up for success in the ski industry, even if you're short on time and unable to commit to a full season.
Whether you're just starting your instructor journey or looking to progress to the next level, we offer three program options to suit your goals: a comprehensive 8 Week Level 1 & 2 Program, a 3 Week Level 1 Program, and a 5 Week Level 2 Program.
During your Level 1 training in Karuizawa, you'll stay in twin-share accommodation at the Comfort Inn Karuizawa, located close to the ski resort. Transport to training is included, and a compulsory daily breakfast meal plan applies at an additional cost.
After completing your training and exam, you'll relocate to Hakuba and move into Hakuba SSS staff accommodation in Hakuba, right nearby the Ski School. Single rooms at Hakuba SSS Staff accommodation cost approximately ¥42,000 per month, including utilities, with bond and cleaning fees payable on arrival.
Participants on the Hakuba Training Program will stay at Monkey Rider Lodge in Echoland, Hakuba Valley’s popular social hub. Conveniently located near Hakuba 47, where training takes place, the lodge offers dormitory-style accommodation, Wi-Fi, shared kitchen and laundry facilities, a drying room, and easy access to resort shuttle buses. Its central Echoland location and social atmosphere make it an ideal base for your season in Hakuba.

Not only are they familiar with Hakuba itself, but they will also be a familiar face to make your gap year and first winter season that much easier.

Our Ski and Snowboard Instructor Internship Course Programs at Hakuba SSS allows you to obtain a globally recognised qualification with the NZSIA (New Zealand Ski Instructors Alliance) or SBINZ (Snowboard Instruction New Zealand). The NZSIA and the SBINZ are well-established, educational bodies that are internationally renowned for producing professional, knowledgeable instructors, with the capabilities to teach and ride at very high standards. They are both internationally recognised as a well-established, professional provider and has a reputation for high-quality and knowledge. NZSIA and SBINZ instructors can competently perform and teach on snow in many cultures and conditions. This qualification can take you anywhere.
