Nakiska is located a mere 83km from Calgary along the highway and close to the ski towns of Banff and Canmore. It was purpose built for the 1988 Calgary Olympics, particularly for the ski racing - this means the resort has long, wide runs perfect for cruising! The resort also has a snow park and 413 hectares of skiable area!
The resort is perfect for beginner and intermediate skiers/snowboarders, and attracts a lot of local traffic from Calgary. Due to it's location and suitability for lessons, Nakiska has a small but busy ski school with plenty of work opportunities.

Being the closest resort to Calgary, Nakiska is busy and is a great opportunity for someone looking to get into practical work experience. Working as an instructor at Nakiska offers great opportunities for anyone interested in pursuing their instructor career. High levels of professionalism and an enthusiasm to work is required, and Nakiska offers a great springboard for someone looking to bolster their CV and build a wealth of experience in their first winter season instructing.
Accommodation for those on an EA Internship Program is organised through Nakiska within their staff housing. This is very affordable accommodation which is well located for the resort and has a great social vibe. Here are a few quick details:
Note: For those on our Internship Programs, EA covers the cost of your accommodation for the duration of the level one program. Once employed you will be able to stay on for the remainder of the season with payments deducted from your pay. You may be required to pay a bond on arrival. You will also need to purchase bedding, towels plus some basic cooking and eating utensils. You can either bring these with you (if practical) or purchase these fairly cheaply as we organise a shopping stop to allow for this.
EA want you to have the best season possible this winter. We have two program managers who oversee the running of our instructor courses who are easily contactable and there to offer advice and support at all times. Not only are they familiar with Nakiska itself, but they also work for the ski school and will be a familiar face to make your gap year and first winter season that much easier.
Both the CISA and CASI have internationally recognised ski associations and are the governing bodies for ski/snowboard instructor qualifications in Canada. CASI and CSIA teaching qualifications are highly regarded in the industry and a qualification with the Canadian system will build your technical understanding and allow you to effectively instruct skiing or snowboarding.
Remember that if you are taking a plus internship, the level 2 course fees are not included as not everyone chooses to sit these.
