What it's like working at

What it's like training in

Frontier Hakuba

As Frontier is based out of Norikura and Cortina resorts this is where their instructors spend most of their time. Good quality staff accommodation and a mature professional team are reasons both staff and clients want to return.

Located four hours from Tokyo by train, the Hakuba area offers over 200 trails and receives an average snowfall of 14 metres each season. There are 11 resorts in this area for you to explore in the area.

If you are over 19, with good life experience, and want to join a small mature instructor team then this could be the place for you. Experiencing Japanese culture and snow should be at the top of your list of goals.

Accommodation

During level 1 training and exam

This part of your program is held at Karuizawa which is nearby to Hakuba but guarantees early season snow. After an orientation in Tokyo you will transfer to Hostel style accommodation here.

Karuizawa

  • The accommodation is dorm style (bunk beds, likely 4 to a room), with use of communal common room, bathrooms, and onsens. There are also communal washers/dryers available.
  • Compulsory meal plan - this will be invoiced prior to the season start.
  • The accommodation at Karuizawa requires a mandatory meal plan for all participants, which falls outside of our course inclusions. This is due to the accommodation having a commercial kitchen and lacking self-catering facilities.
  • The meal plan includes breakfast and dinner for each day you are in Karuizawa, from arrival through to when you depart to transfer to your placement resort after the level 1 exam. Meals will be a range of healthy options, and you can expect a continental style breakfast with some Japanese elements. Dinners will be traditional Japanese - eg miso, rice, vegetarian option, pork, fish, chicken.
  • This is a real bonus during the training period as it means you don't need to worry about prepping meals during your training/exam period, allowing you to focus on other things and enjoy communal meals together with your group each day!
  • Transport to training days and exams is provided.

‍While working

One successful on your level 1 exam you will transfer to Hakuba Frontier. Here interns typically stay in staff accommodation close to the Ski School. Rooms are shared with at least 1 other, plus there are common areas, dry room, laundry and lobby. Internet Wi-Fi is provided.

*The above is an indicative based on last season and is subject to change based on availability and updates to pricing
