Living and working at Tūroa - Mt. Ruapehu

On an EA Ski & Snowboard internship plus at Mt. Ruapehu you will train and work at Tūroa ski field. Tūroa is a 30 minute bus trip from the town of Ohakune where you will be living. The ski season in New Zealand runs from June until October.

The work position at Tūroa ski field begins after you complete the level 1 exam. This is generally in early August. From there you mix part time work with training towards the level 2. The contract runs until October but there is flexibility to leave earlier if needed.

Once you arrive in Ohakune, you will meet your EA Program Manager who will help you settle into your new home and introduce you to your fellow interns. You will then get straight into an intense training and exam period towards the level 1. Our program is designed to combine work, play and training, meaning your schedule is roughly based around 3 training days, 2 work days and 2 days off each week after completing the level 1.

What about accommodation?

Accommodation will be provided for the first four weeks of your instructor internship program at the LKNZ Lodge in Ohakune.

You will share a four-bed dorm room with your fellow EA interns. LKNZ Lodge itself is centrally located, near to the supermarket, cafes, bars and shops. Ohakune is a year round town meaning it has solid infrastructure and all the usual amenities - but then it also has the small town charm NZ is famous for. Mt. Ruapehu regularly put on staff buses to enable local staff to go to the larger town of Taupo for day trips and visits to the large supermarkets there (Taupo is a great town to explore with a lot of fun activities).

Accommodation facilities:

  • Large common lounges in each lodge area
  • Fully furnished kitchens
  • On-Site Cafe and ice cream store
  • Hot tub and Sauna
  • Pool table
  • Views of Mt Doom
  • Linen-included and on site laundry facilities
  • Wifi

Your accommodation is included until the end of the level 1 exam, with your place reserved for the rest of the season if you wish to stay on.
