Ski Instructor Story: Eve Rogers
My name is Eve, I’m a 23 year old English girl. I’ve always loved being outdoors and some of my best memories growing up were ski holidays with my family. I’m always drawn to the mountains and when I’m back home I spend most weekends driving a couple of hours to Wales just to go hiking. After dragging myself through university, I came back to an idea that had crossed my mind for years: doing a ski season.

Why did I choose to do an EA Ski and Snowboard Training programme?
I knew I wanted a job outside, something active where everyday would be a little different. I’ve always been interested in working in the adventure and outdoors industry, but I didn’t know where to start. It seemed like a lot of the time you are starting at the very bottom, doing odd jobs just to get your foot in the door. With the EA Ski and Snowboard Training programme you’re thrown into it right away. From the beginning you are learning how to teach, how to structure your lessons on snow and how to better your own skiing. The training felt like much more than preparation for a season of teaching, it has provided me with the confidence to continue growing in the outdoors industry.
How is ski instructing different to other seasonal jobs?
Before arriving I knew a seasonal job would be a great way to travel, be active outdoors and meet great people. But once our training started, I found myself really interested in learning how to teach. I never thought teaching would be the kind of career I’d enjoy, but I quickly developed a love for it. There’s something quite special about watching a new skier go from nervous and unsure to being confident and super excited about skiing. I have built such strong connections with people through celebrating their wins like getting off the chairlift for the first time, tackling steeper runs, or simply developing more confidence. It’s so fulfilling to provide people with the skills to explore the mountain by themselves and watch them achieve far more than they thought they were capable of.
What’s next for your career in ski instructing?
I’m currently preparing for my Level 2 exam at the end of the Northern Hemisphere season. After Japan, I’ll be heading to New Zealand to keep chasing winter in the Southern Hemisphere. While I’m there, I’m taking an adaptive skiing course so I can learn how to teach people with physical and cognitive disabilities. One of my favourite things about becoming an instructor has been how many opportunities there are to keep progressing, both with my teaching and my own skiing. As I continue to progress I am looking forward to doing seasons in Canada, Europe and different resorts in Japan. I can’t wait to see what the next season holds...
Chasing Winter, Chasing Growth. Eve Has Her Sights Set on Adaptive Skiing.
Eve came to Japan with a simple goal, to find a career in the outdoors. What she found was something she never expected: a genuine love for teaching, a community that pushes her forward and a path that keeps opening up new doors. She is just getting started.
