Located in the heart of British Columbia, Big White is an award-winning resort and ski town that offers ski-in, ski-out accommodation.  

Big White receives 750cm of light, fluffy powder each year and is known for its deep powder bowls, wide-open glades and long groomed trails. The ski resort has more than 2,700 skiable acres suitable for even the most advanced skiers and powder hunters.

All up, Big White offers 118 runs, 5 alpine bowls, 1 massive terrain park, night skiing, and Canada's biggest tubing park. Big White offers an unforgettable winter experience.

What it's like training in

Big White

Big White is only 45 minutes away from Kelowna, the third largest city in British Columbia offering shopping, restaurants, nightlife for you to enjoy in your free time. On a ski instructor internship plus program at Big White, new instructors will work in the Kids Center, initially on a part time style contract as this fits in with your training demands and schedule as you work towards your level 2 depending on course type. You can expect to be busy with work over the Christmas and New Year period with less work during the quieter weeks in January onwards. Your further training towards your dual certification or level 2 is designed to make the most of this period.

Accommodation

Accommodation during our Internship Plus Program at Big White is typically located at the Urban Retreat Hostel.

  • 4 person shared rooms with bunk beds
  • Ski in, ski out location
  • Approx. $675 CAD monthly (to be prepaid) for the full season
  • Bedding is provided
  • In-room lockers
  • Communal ski locker available to use for ski/snowboard/gear storage
  • Rooms are cleaned daily, however it is expected you would TIDY the room and sign a behavioural policy prior to arrival
  • They have a free internet kiosk and paid wi-fi, a wax station, day storage
  • A massive kitchen/common area big enough for the whole hostel to take part in dinners or games
  • The kitchen is equipped with everything you’ll need to cook, lots food storage, 5 fridges, 2 deep freezers, 3 cooking areas and 2 sink areas.
  • There are coin operated laundry facilities
  • 4 fully functioning bathrooms
  • A safe at the front desk for safe storage

Program Manager

Every season we have a resort representative at Big White who is easily contacted and there to offer advice and support at all times. Not only are they familiar with Big White itself, but they also work for the ski school and will be a familiar face, ready to make your gap year and first winter season that much easier.

Certification Overview

Our ski internship plus program at Norquay, Banff allow you to obtain a globally recognised qualification with CSIA.

The CSIA is an internationally recognised ski association and are the governing bodies for ski instructor qualifications in Canada. The CSIA qualification is highly regarded in the industry and a qualification with the Canadian system will build your technical understanding and allow you to effectively instruct skiing.

Remember that if you are taking a plus internship, the level 2 exam fees are not included as not everyone chooses to sit these.
