Anna is currently living the ski bunny dream at Big White Ski Resort, Canada.
Check our her update on how things are going on her EA Ski Instructor course:
Arriving at Big White
Looking a little ragged after our long haul flights, we began the drive from Kelowna to Big White. The drive itself was beautiful... the passing scenery blanketed in a thick layer of white snow.
When we arrived in Big White, we were not disappointed. The snow was still falling, and with the resort having received a health dump before our arrival, we were all really keen to get out on the mountain!
Getting & Trying Out New Skis!
After checking in, EA Ski & Snowboard Training got us set up with some great pro deals on our skis at Dizzy's Ski Shop. With some advice from our EA Ski & Snowboard Training rep, and Dizzy's helpful staff, I settled on a pair of Head Rev 85's.
The next day, keen to try out my new skis, I headed outside with new friends to get about and have some fun on the hill. We had a beautiful first day playing around between the trees, and racing down the hill... After a fantastic day on the slopes we headed home as the lifts closed - loving the ease of skiing to our door!
A couple of days later, and after more great skiing, we started our training with Big White's ski school. Our friendly trainer Mark, a veteran of 13 seasons, took us for a tour of the mountain which gave us the opportunity to see just how much of the mountain we still have to explore! Mark also shared his wisdom about staying warm on the hill, and how to watch out for frostbite (great advice for those -29C days).
After a week at Big White, and with the weather warming up to a practically balmy -20C, I still can't wait to get out and enjoy the mountain again tomorrow!
Dizzy's Ski Shop
On a side note, I would like to say a massive thank you to Lin at Dizzy's. After years of uncomfortable and poor fitting boots, I skeptically agreed to Lin making me a pair of custom foot beds for my new ski boots. Not expecting much, I headed out in my new boots I was surprised to find that my ski boots were actually comfortable! Not only that, in the week that followed I found that the knee pain I have always experienced while skiing had dramatically reduced. I cannot describe how fantastic the change has been, and how great it to be able to get out and do something I love without pain!
