You can't ignore Kang’s passion for snowsports. Kang has 8+ seasons working as a qualified ski instructor in places like Japan, Switzerland, the USA and New Zealand. And continues to follow his passion and strive to get his Ski Instructor Trainer Certification.
We caught up with Kang to ask a few questions about his role as a training consultant.
What do you love most about working with prospective ski and snowboard instructors?
It brings back the memory of when I went through the process to become a ski instructor (over 10 years ago! ). I can relate to the excitement that our trainees have. They’re about to spend the whole season in the snow!!
Is there anything in particular that makes you know instantly that you are talking to someone who is going to make a GREAT instructor?
First is having a passion for snowsports. At the end of the day, we’re all here because we love to ski and snowboard. And doing that for a living and earning money is an added bonus. Second is whoever is keen to take up the challenge to have fun while soaking in the training so they can upskill their ski and/or snowboard skills.
Is there an EA course in particular that stands out to you above the rest?
As Training Consultants, we get asked this question a lot. I think it really comes down to what our trainee would want to get out of the season. For example, if a trainee is looking to spend the next few seasons following the snow. I would recommend that they go with our “Internship Plus programmes” as it will set them up for success to become a full-time instructor. Or, for a trainee who is keen to just spend a season just as a gap year, then our Level 1 programmes like the “Internship Programme” or our “Training Programme" will be a great fit for them.
What do you think we can offer that other courses struggle to provide?
EA Ski and Snowboard boast over 20+ years of experience in the industry. We are at the forefront of providing “Internship Programme” for Instructor training programmes. Through our programmes, over 400 trainees successfully become snowsport instructors every year. We would not be able to do so if we are not competent and/or confident in ourselves in doing what we do.
With the knowledge and experience we have, we provide the most comprehensive and supportive program for all our trainees.
What advice do you have for someone wanting to become an instructor?
Be ready for your life to evolve around snow. You will be surrounded by people who are just as passionate about snow-sports as you are. And most importantly, you will open up your eyes to a whole other world, so be ready to soak in the most amazing winter season of your life!
